SUFI FLOW
The Heart of Sufi Flow
Mahzoon is a well-known name among Sufis and dervishes. He was born in Tehran, the capital of Iran, and has roots in Tabriz. His journey into the world of Sufism began at the age of seven through his father, an introduction that soon grew into a deep personal interest and a lifelong path of spiritual practice.
Music was Mahzoon’s first gateway into Sufi tradition. He began by learning the daf, a sacred frame drum widely used in Sufi rituals, and later expanded his musical expression by studying the tanbur. For him, music became more than an art form, it evolved into a tool for meditation, inner exploration, and spiritual connection. Alongside music, Mahzoun discovered his talent for poetry at an early age. Writing became a way for him to capture emotions and inner experiences. Over time, the fusion of poetry, music, and lived Sufi practice led him to compose spiritually inspired songs, performing his poetry accompanied by music.
Years of continuous presence within Sufi communities gradually shaped Mahzoon into a dedicated researcher of mysticism and Sufism. This path took him on extensive journeys to regions deeply connected to the history of Sufism, including India, Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Tibet. During these travels, he met Sufi masters, elders, and teachers from diverse traditions, learning practices of self-knowledge, meditation, and inner discipline. Mahzoon spent many years practicing Sema, the whirling dance of Sufism, and conducted in-depth research into various forms of meditation and ritual movement, studying under experienced teachers in different countries.
Today, Mahzoon is based in Stockholm, Sweden, and is the founder of Sufi Flow. Sufi Flow is a living space for sharing experience, awareness, and devotion, an open and evolving path inspired by ancient Sufi traditions, created to support inner stillness, self-discovery, and a deeper connection to one’s inner world in the context of modern life.
